What is the friction coefficient of rolling bearings?

One of the important properties of rolling bearings is that they can reduce friction. Under normal operating conditions, rolling bearings have a smaller friction coefficient than sliding bearings, especially low starting friction. The friction inner diameter of rolling bearing is the benchmark, which can be expressed by the following formula:

μ=2M/Pd

μ:Coefficient of friction

ΜFriction torque N.mmkgf.fmm

P: load N(kgf)

d: Bearing inner diameter mm

In addition to the structure of the bearing, the dynamic friction coefficient of rolling bearings also varies due to load, lubrication, speed and other factors. Under normal operating conditions, the friction coefficient of various bearings can refer to the values shown in the table below.

Bearing type Friction coefficient

μ*10-3

Deep groove ball bearing

1.0~1.5

Centripetal thrust ball bearing

1.2~1.8

Self-aligning ball bearing
