The difference between roller bearing and ball bearing

Rolling bearings support and guide rotating or vibrating machine elements (such as shafts, shafts, or wheels) with minimal friction and transmit loads between machine parts, therefore, it can achieve high speed, low noise, low heat, low energy consumption, and low wear. Rolling bearings meet the national or international standard size, so different brands can be freely replaced, but also according to the need to choose higher precision or larger clearance of the same size bearing.

According to the different rolling elements, rolling bearing is divided into two basic types, namely, roller bearing and ball bearing.

1. The principle is different

Ball bearing: the ball-shaped alloy steel ball installed in the inner and outer steel ring in the middle, rolling to reduce the power transmission process of friction and improve the efficiency of mechanical power transmission. Ball bearings can not bear heavy loads, in the light of industrial machinery more common.

Roller Bearing: A bearing in which the journal rotates in circular contact with some rollers normally mounted on a locating ring. Roller bearing provides excellent accuracy and rigidity by pre-tightening. An inner ring with a taper can also be used.

2. Different performance

Ball bearings: generally used in low-load mechanical transmission equipment. Because the bearing area of the ball bearing is small, it is easy to appear serious mechanical damage under the condition of high-speed operation, so the needle bearing is often used to enlarge the bearing area in the mechanical transmission of heavy load, improve the efficiency of mechanical transmission while reducing mechanical damage.

Roller Bearing: roller bearing achieves excellent accuracy and rigidity by pre-tightening. An inner ring with a taper can also be used to arbitrarily adjust the working clearance of the bearing. This solution can completely achieve the printing machine roller bearing zero clearance needs.

3. Different approaches to contact

Ball bearings come into contact with points in the ring raceway. As the load acting on the bearing increases, the contact point becomes an elliptical area, and the smaller contact area provides lower rolling friction, this allows ball bearings to adapt to higher speeds, but also limits their load-carrying capacity.

Roller Bearing in contact with the ring raceway line, as the load acting on the bearing increases, the shape of the contact line into a rectangular region, because the contact area is larger, so the friction is higher, roller bearings can withstand heavier loads than ball bearings of the same size, but at lower speeds.
