Lubrication methods for stainless steel ball bearings

During the use of stainless steel ball bearings, it is often encountered that the instantaneous high temperature of the grinding zone can cause the surface to be heated to a certain depth (10-100 nm) above the tempering temperature of the workpiece. Under the condition of not reaching the austenitizing temperature, with the increase of the heating temperature, the surface layer by layer will produce the structure transformation corresponding to the heating temperature, and the hardness will also decrease. The higher the heating temperature, the worse the hardness drop.

 

In the grinding process, a large amount of energy is consumed in the contact zone between the grinding wheel and the workpiece, resulting in a large amount of grinding heat, resulting in local instantaneous high temperature in the grinding zone. The instantaneous temperature under the experimental conditions is derived, calculated, or measured by using the infrared method and the thermocouple method by using the theoretical formula of heat transfer of the linear moving heat source, it is found that the instantaneous temperature in the grinding zone of 0.1-0.001 ms can be as high as 1000.1500°C. The instantaneous high temperature is enough to cause high-temperature oxidation,amorphous stricture,high-temperature tempering,secondary quenching,even burn crack,and so on.


Under the action of instantaneous high temperature, the steel surface reacts with the oxygen in the air and rises into a very thin (20-30 nm) iron oxide thin layer. It is worth noting that the thickness of the oxide layer corresponds to the total thickness of the modified layer in surface grinding. This shows that the oxide thickness is directly related to the grinding process and is an important indicator of grinding quality.

The grease used in bearings is rust-resistant. The anti-rust performance mainly depends on the oil-soluble, different viscosity, and different materials of grease, with different grades of anti-corrosion and anti-rust performance, in general, thicker, less fat-soluble oils are more water-resistant, and even if they are filled with water, they can form a resistant oil film on the surface of stainless steel ball bearings. Due to the low speed of the bicycle, the choice of oil can be slightly higher relative to the viscosity, but the type of extremely strong waterproof, because the bicycle in car washing, rainy days, off-road, are often associated with water, this makes water resistance very important, even if the slightly viscous oil, will not affect the smooth low rotation, and once the surface of the formation of oxidation damage, the whole process of peeling and the aging process will rapidly increase.

 

If two incompatible fats and oils are mixed, never mix incompatible fats and oils. It usually softens and eventually gets damaged by the loss of grease. If you don't know what kind of grease stainless steel ball bearings are used, remove all the grease first, then add grease for lubrication.
