Origin of bearings

The origin of bearings can be traced back to ancient times, and the earliest form of bearings may have been rolling bearings used for simple machinery such as wheels and wooden wheels. A detailed introduction to the origin and development of the following bearings:

The earliest rolling bearings appeared in the ancient Roman period, around 40 BC, when engineers invented wooden ball bearings to support rotating tabletops.

Leonardo da Vinci and other Renaissance scientists made significant contributions to the design and theory of bearings.

During the Industrial Revolution, the design and production of bearings experienced significant development, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries when large-scale production of steel made the realization of high-strength bearings possible, thereby promoting the development of mechanization.

At the beginning of the 20th century, bearing technology continued to advance, especially in materials science and manufacturing processes, such as the use of composite materials and the maturity of precision manufacturing technology, which significantly improved the performance of bearings.

The design of modern bearings typically includes inner and outer rings, rolling elements (such as balls or rollers), and retainers, which work together to reduce friction and support loads of rotational or linear motion.
